The Order of Succession
Members of the Royal Family in Line to the British Throne
The order of succession is the order in which members of the British Royal Family stand in line to the British throne. The sequence is established by descent and Parliamentary statute. The order of succession determines the precedence of the family at official events.
Queen Elizabeth II
1. Charles, Prince of Wales is the son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The title Prince of Wales has traditionally been given to the Heir Apparent since 1301.
2. Prince William of Wales is the son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
3. Prince Harry of Wales is the son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
4. Andrew, Duke of York is the second eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The title has been given to the second son of the monarch since the 15th century.
5. Princess Beatrice of York is the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
6. Princess Eugenie of York is the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
7. Edward, Earl of Wessex is the third son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Before Edward, the last person to have the Earldom of Wessex was Harold Godwinson before he became king in 1066.
8. James, Viscount Severn is the son of Edward and Sophie Wessex. The River Severn is the longest river in Great Britain. It is located in Wales.
9. The Lady Louise Windsor is the daughter of Edward and Sophie Wessex.
10. Anne, the Princess Royal is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
11. Mr. Peter Phillips is the son of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips. He is the eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth.
12. Miss Zara Phillips is the daughter of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips.
13. David Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley is the son of Princess Margaret, the Queen’s sister, and Anthony Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowden. Viscount Linley is the title used by the heir to the Earldom of Snowden.
14. The Honorable Charles Armstrong-Jones is the son of Viscount and Viscountess Linley.
15. The Honorable Margarita Armstrong-Jones is the daughter of Viscount and Viscountess Linley.
16. The Lady Sarah Chatto is the daughter of Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowden.
17. Master Samuel Chatto is the eldest son of Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto.
18. Master Arthur Chatto is the son of Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto.
19. Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester is the son of Prince Henry, eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary, and Princess Alice. He is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth.
20. Alexander Windsor, Earl of Ulster is the eldest son of the Duke of Gloucester and Birgitte van Deurs.
21. Xan Windsor, Lord Culloden is the son of the Earl and Countess of Ulster. Culloden is a village three miles east of Inverness, Scotland.
22. The Lady Davina Lewis is the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
23. The Lady Rose Gilman is the younger daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
24. Prince George, the Duke of Kent is the fourth son of King George V.
25. The Lady Amelia Windsor is the daughter of the Earl and Countess of St. Andrews. The Earl was excluded from the line of succession upon his marriage to the Countess because she is Roman Catholic.
26. The Lady Helen Taylor is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Kent. She is the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth.
27. Master Columbus Taylor is the eldest son of Lady Helen and Timothy Taylor.
28. Master Cassius Taylor is the son of Lady Helen and Timothy Taylor.
29. Miss Eloise Taylor is the eldest daughter of Lady Helen and Timothy Taylor.
30. Miss Estella Taylor is the daughter of Lady Helen and Timothy Taylor.
31. The Lord Frederick Windsor is the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Prince Michael was excluded from the line of succession upon his marriage.
32. The Lady Gabriella Windsor is the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Michael of Kent.
33. Princess Alexandra, the Honorable Lady Ogilvy is daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent, the fourth son of George V and Queen Mary, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. She is the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth.
34. Mr. James Ogilvy is the son of Princess Alexandra and Sir Angus Ogilvy.
35. Master Alexander Ogilvy is the son of James and Julia Ogilvy.
36. Miss Flora Ogilvy is the daughter of James and Julia Ogilvy.
37. Miss Marina Ogilvy is the daughter of Princess Alexandra.
38. Master Christian Mowatt is the son of Marina Ogilvy and Paul Mowatt.
39. Miss Zenouska Mowatt is the daughter of Marina Ogilvy and Paul Mowatt.
40. George Lascelles, the Earl of Harewood is the eldest son of 6th Earl of Harewood and Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V.
